Oprah Winfrey
Harpo Studios 1058 W. Washington Blvd. Chicago, IL 60607-2103
Dear Ms. Winfrey,

I am writing this letter, to give you some insight on domestic violence. I know you have done many shows on the subject but, I am writing to you to give you additional information on this terrible and ongoing issue that affects people everyday.

Domestic violence is obviously a major issue which can conclude in death. It can result in physical attacks, sexual attacks, and/or emotional attacks. Even though you only hear about it in heterosexual couples, it can also happen in homosexual couples. An abuser, unfortunately, can even be a child.

At least one out of every three women will be abused sometime during her life. Around four thousand women die every year. The major cause of domestic violence that is inflicted on women is battery. Rape, muggings, and auto accidents are included. In about seventy-five percent of domestic homicides, victims were killed after the relationship ended.

Even though women are terribly abused, they still stay. Amazingly some of them still love their partner. There are other reasons why they stay in abusive relationships; fear, children, guilt, lack of self-esteem, economic dependence, and the lack of family togetherness.

Ms. Winfrey, I am hoping that this letter, will give you a better perspective on domestic violence so that you will let people know the effects, damages, and tragedies of this violence. I also want you to let women know that they can be helped.

Sincerely,

Chandler Babb
